Gatlinburg is a city in Sevier County, Tennessee, United States. It is located 39 miles (63 km) southeast of Knoxville and had a population of 3,577 at the 2020 census . [ 7 ] It is a popular mountain resort town , as it rests on the border of Great Smoky Mountains National Park along U.S. Route 441 .
This gap has long been frequented by travelers between East and Middle Tennessee. Today, both Interstate 40 and U.S. Route 70 pass through Crab Orchard. Big Rock Mountain (el. 2,703 ft; 824 m) rises prominently to the north of Crab Orchard. Haley Mountain (el. 2,660 ft; 810 m) and Black Mountain (2,827 ft; 2.1 m) dominate the view to the south.
Cherokee Orchard Road (still occasionally referred to as Airport Road) connects the Noah Ogle Place to U.S. Route 441 in downtown Gatlinburg to the north and to the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail to the south. The site's tub mill is situated on the banks of LeConte Creek, approximately 0.5 miles (0.80 km) from the cabin and barn.

Situated along the border of Tennessee and North Carolina, the state line crosses the gap, as does Newfound Gap Road (which overlaps U.S. Route 441 through the park and ends at the park's boundaries near Gatlinburg, Tennessee, and Cherokee, North Carolina). The Appalachian Trail also traverses the gap, as do a few other hiking trails.
