The Fifth Gymnasium (Croatian: V. gimnazija, Peta gimnazija) is a high school in Zagreb, Croatia specialising in science and mathematics. It was opened on 7 November 1938. Today it has about 900 students in 28 classes. It is considered to be the most prestigious gymnasium in Zagreb alongside the XV Gymnasium.
It was founded in 1607 by the Jesuits, who had recently settled in the Kingdom of Croatia (Habsburg) and Slavonia within the Habsburg monarchy.The gymnasium began operation on the initiative of the Zagreb City Council, with the approval of the Croatian Parliament (Sabor) and strong support of Ban of Croatia Ivan Drašković.
