In the early 1900s, there were 328 plantations identified in North Carolina from extant records. [ 10 ] [ 8 ] [ 9 ] The Sloop Point plantation in Pender County, built in 1729, is the oldest surviving plantation house and the second oldest house surviving in North Carolina, after the Lane House (built in 1718–1719 and not part of a plantation).

The U.S. Highway crosses Deep Creek before becoming the Main Street of Scotland Neck. US 258 becomes concurrent with NC 125 at the south edge of the town and with NC 903, which enters from the east on 9th Street, in the center of town. NC 125 and NC 903 exit town to the west on 12th Street.
In 1922, the first NC 128 existed briefly, originally running from Scotland Neck to Rich Square. [3] It was quickly renumbered to NC 125 (now US 258). The current route was numbered NC 128, on or around 1947, as a new primary route and has remained unchanged since. [4] The road itself existed earlier as a toll road on a 1936 county map.
