The Cherry Grove Pier is a popular landmark of Cherry Grove. It was built early in the 1950s. It has weathered many hurricanes, and was remodeled and lengthened in 1999 after Hurricane Floyd. In 1968 Cherry Grove Beach merged with Windy Hill Beach, Ocean Drive Beach, and Crescent Beach to form the city of North Myrtle Beach.
North Myrtle Beach is located in eastern Horry County. It is bordered to the southwest by Briarcliffe Acres and to the northeast by Little River . Via U.S. Route 17 , it is 15 miles (24 km) northeast of Myrtle Beach and 57 miles (92 km) southwest of Wilmington, North Carolina .
South Carolina Highway 69 (SC 69) was a state highway that was established in 1977 from U.S. Route 17 (US 17) in Atlantic Beach, up to Cherry Grove Beach, and then back to US 17. In 1981, it was decommissioned and redesignated as SC 65. Today, its northernmost portion is part of SC 9.
