Ek Tha Tiger (transl. There Was a Tiger) is a 2012 Indian Hindi-language action thriller film directed and co-written by Kabir Khan.Produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films, it is the first installment in the YRF Spy Universe, and stars Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, Ranvir Shorey, Roshan Seth, Girish Karnad, and Gavie Chahal. YRF Spy Universe is an Indian media franchise and shared universe centered on a series of spy action films, which feature various fictional RAW agents. The family of Ravindra Kaushik, an Indian R&AW agent nicknamed "Black Tiger", claimed that the story of the film Ek Tha Tiger was based on his life and asked for credits in the film titles. In July 2012, a legal notice was served by the nephew of Kaushik, stating the film bears a striking resemblance to his uncle and his uncle's life. [ 11 ]
The three films would become the most expensive productions ever undertaken by YRF; Ek Tha Tiger [11] was produced at ₹ 75 crore (US$8.7 million), [12] Jab Tak Hai Jaan was produced at ₹ 60 crore (US$6.9 million) [13] and Dhoom 3 was produced at ₹ 150 crore (US$17 million). [14]

His latest film Chandu Champion (2024) was released on 14 June 2024 opening to positive reviews. This was his second sports biopic after 83 and after The Diplomat (2025). Zafar was subsequently hired as the writer and director; Misra, who had written the script for Ek Tha Tiger alongside Khan, contributed to the story, which is inspired from the 2014 abduction of Indian nurses by ISIL. [9] Production begun for the film in 2016, and filming was concluded by 2017.
Vishal–Shekhar composed the film's soundtrack in their second collaboration with Khan and Zafar after Sultan (2016). They replaced Sohail Sen, the original composer of the predecessor Ek Tha Tiger, whereas Julius Packiam, who did the background score for the first film, returned for the sequel.
