Jona Baravilala Senilagakali (8 November 1929 – 26 October 2011) [1] was a Fijian medical doctor and diplomat who was briefly appointed as Prime Minister of Fiji following the 2006 Fijian coup d'état. [2] Subsequently he was Minister for Health in the military regime from 2007 to 2008.
In the meantime, he appointed Jona Senilagakali, a 77-year-old military doctor, to serve as caretaker prime minister. Senilagakali stated that he had no choice but to take the job after being ordered to do so. [54] However, the GCC slammed Bainimarama's "illegal, unconstitutional" activities [why?] and cancelled their planned meeting. [55]

After the Fijian military coup of 5 December 2006, the new interim prime minister Jona Senilagakali announced that elections would take place held "hopefully in 12 months, two years".
