Bella Vista is a city in Benton County, Arkansas, United States. The community has taken advantage of the natural setting within the Springfield Plateau of the Ozark Mountains since first established in 1917 as a summer resort destination.
Arkansas Highway 340 (AR 340) [1] is an east–west state highway in Benton County, Arkansas. The route runs 9.21 miles (14.82 km) in Bella Vista from Highway 279 in the west to Highway 94 in the east. [4] The route is entirely known as also Lancashire Boulevard.
The second section of road to be designated as AR 549 was the Bella Vista Bypass in the northern part of the state. It bypasses Bella Vista, Arkansas hence the project name. The Bella Vista Bypass was first opened to traffic on April 22, 2014, as a three-mile (4.8 km) two-lane freeway bypassing Hiwasse, now part of the town of Gravette. [14]
Arkansas and Missouri pursued an I-49 designation for US 71 and I-540 for many years. In the early 2000s, there were plans by both states to rename the roadway as such between I-44 west of Joplin and I-40 at Fort Smith once a new bypass of US 71 had been completed around Bella Vista, Arkansas, and north to Pineville, Missouri. Wonderland Cave is the largest cave in northwestern Arkansas. It is located on Dartmoor Road in Bella Vista, northeast of Bella Vista Lake and east of United States Route 71. The published report of the cave dates to 1868. Purchased in 1917, the cave was developed by Clarence A. Linebarger in 1929, opening it as a nightclub on March 1, 1930.

The route runs 14.87 miles (23.93 km) from Arkansas Highway 12 at Vaughn north to the Missouri state line through Centerton. [2] The route has a rare officially designated exception of 0.52 miles (0.84 km), overlapping Arkansas Highway 72. [3]
