Gwendolyn Grant is an American activist. She is President and CEO of the Urban League of Greater Kansas City. [1] She became their first female CEO in 1995. [2]Grant has received numerous honors including the National Urban League's Whitney M. Young Leadership Award for Advancing Racial Equity and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference Community Service Award.

The Paseo YMCA opened in 1914, when Julius Rosenwald encouraged Kansas Citians to raise $80,000 toward building a new YMCA. [2] The architect of the Paseo YMCA was local architect Charles A. Smith. In 1920 eight independent black baseball team owners met to form what would become the Negro National League. [3] The facility closed in the 1970s.

Sedgwick Hall was constructed in 1914, allowing the opening of high school classes, and college classes began in 1917, all held within the same building. The first Rockhurst University students were all taught by Alphonse Schwitalla. The first class graduated in 1921. In 1939, Rockhurst was granted accreditation by the North Central Association.
