In this case, the EmployeeID is both a foreign key and the unique primary key, meaning that the tables have a 1:1 relationship. In the case where the person entity contained the biological father ID, the father ID would not be expected to be unique because a father may have more than one child.
A unique identifier (UID) is an identifier that is guaranteed to be unique among all identifiers used for those objects and for a specific purpose. [1] The concept was formalized early in the development of computer science and information systems. In general, it was associated with an atomic data type.
In the relational model of databases, a primary key is a designated attribute that can reliably identify and distinguish between each individual record in a table. The database creator can choose an existing unique attribute or combination of attributes from the table (a natural key) to act as its primary key, or create a new attribute containing a unique ID that exists solely for this purpose ...
Entities and relationships can both have attributes. For example, an employee entity might have a Social Security Number (SSN) attribute, while a proved relationship may have a date attribute. All entities except weak entities must have a minimal set of uniquely identifying attributes that may be used as a unique/primary key.
A surrogate key (or synthetic key, pseudokey, entity identifier, factless key, or technical key [citation needed]) in a database is a unique identifier for either an entity in the modeled world or an object in the database. The surrogate key is not derived from application data, unlike a natural (or business) key. [1]
This implementation uses hi/lo algorithm to generate identifiers. Algorithm uses a high value retrieved from database and combines it with range of low values to generate a unique identifier. High value is from column next_id of table hibernate_unique_key by default. But you can override this to use a different table.

The format for all EMPLID numbers is a seven digit number where the first digit is 1 and there are no alpha characters used.
