On July 7, 1983, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. The building is owned by Mac Smith, a Daytona Beach businessman who has owned it for over 40 years.

In 1886, the St. Johns & Halifax River Railway arrived in Daytona. The line was purchased in 1889 by Henry M. Flagler , who made it part of his Florida East Coast Railway . The separate towns of Daytona, Daytona Beach, Kingston, and Seabreeze merged as "Daytona Beach" in 1926, at the urging of civic leader J. B. Kahn and others.
In 1884 David D. Rogers bought 47 acres (190,000 m 2) of land on the beach peninsula, east of Daytona, stretching from present-day Main Street on the north to Harvey Street on the south, and from the Atlantic Ocean on the east, to Pinewood Cemetery on the west. Rogers divided the property into lots for sale and named the development Seabreeze.
