The 1976 US Open was a tennis tournament that took place on the outdoor Har-Tru clay courts at the West Side Tennis Club in Forest Hills, Queens, in New York City, United States. The tournament ran from 1 until 12 September. It was the 96th staging of the US Open, and the fourth Grand Slam tennis event of 1976.

Despite the ongoing drought and heatwave of 1976, the 90th staging of the tournament went ahead as planned. Björn Borg and Chris Evert won the singles title.
Jimmy Connors defeated Björn Borg in the final, 6–4, 3–6, 7–6 (11–9), 6–4 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 1976 US Open. It was his second US Open singles title and fourth major singles title overall. It was Borg's first of four runner-up finishes at the US Open, his career-best result at the event.
