On July 18, 2023, Pope Francis appointed Nunes as an auxiliary bishop of Los Angeles and the titular bishop of Kearney. [ 1 ] [ 7 ] Gómez consecrated Nunes as a bishop on September 26, 2023, at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, with Bishop Gerald Wilkerson and Auxiliary Bishop Alejandro Aclan as co-consecrators.
