The Independence Bowl is a post-season National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)-sanctioned Division I college football bowl game that is played annually each December at Independence Stadium in Shreveport, Louisiana. The Independence Bowl was named because it was inaugurated in 1976, the year of the United States Bicentennial.
The team was led by second-year head coach Mike Sherman and played their home games at Kyle Field in College Station, Texas. The Aggies finished the season 6–7, 3–5 in Big 12 play and lost in the Independence Bowl 44–20 against Georgia. This would be the Aggies' last losing season until 2022. [1]
