In 2008 UNCG wrestlers Chris Bullins and Daren Burns qualified for the US Olympic Team Trials in Greco-Roman. [ 1 ] On March 14, 2011 Athletic Director Kim Record announced intentions to cut the program, [ 2 ] saying that the $308,000 to run the program can be better invested in other programs.
On November 9, 2007 UNCG had their first win against an Atlantic Coast Conference opponent when they beat Georgia Tech at Alexander Memorial Coliseum, 83-74. On December 5, 2008 UNCG announced their home games would be played in the Greensboro Coliseum. On November 17, 2023 UNCG beat No.14 ranked Arkansas in Bud Walton Arena, 78-72.
The Spartans also earned berths into the Division I national tournament once, the Division II tournament once and the Division III tournament seven times. With Agee at the helm, UNCG became one of only 10 teams nationally (all divisions) to reach the NCAA tournament each of the first seven years it was held (1982–88).
