Born in Mexico, he grew up in San Diego and became a freestyle artist under the stage name Frankie Boy in the late 1990s. [ 2 ] [ 3 ] He then joined Kumbia Kings before re-embarking on a solo career. Frankie J's solo debut album, What's a Man to Do , was released in 2003, followed by more English and Spanish language albums.
Many members of Kumbia All Starz, Kingz One, and Los Super Reyes were formerly together as Kumbia Kings, which had much success but unfortunately, this was bittersweet for the group amidst the controversy and love/hate relationship between the co-producers of Kumbia Kings, A.B. Quintanilla and Cruz Martínez, as well as the other members and ex-members of the group.
Quintanilla's brother-in-law, Chris Pérez, would join to him in the bands created by Quintanilla, Kumbia Kings and Kumbia All Starz. Pérez would perform with Kumbia Kings on their albums and some concerts from 1998 to 2003 before joining as a full-time member in 2003 until 2006, when the Kumbia Kings disbanded.
He is currently a vocalist for the bands Cruz Martínez Y Los Super Reyes and Los EnVivo Kings. He is also a former member of the bands Menudo, [1] MDO, [2] and A.B. Quintanilla Y Los Kumbia Kings. [3] Talamántez was the second member of Mexican origin in Menudo.
Pérez continued in the music business and often played with A.B.'s groups, the Kumbia Kings and the Kumbia All Starz. He left both groups and formed another band (the Chris Pérez Project, which included American singer Angel Ferrer) in 2010. In 2012, Pérez wrote a book about his relationship with Selena, entitled To Selena, with Love.
Showcasing a more mature sound for the singer, the title track—a duet with former Kumbia Kings frontman DJ Kane—was the most successful single. Other songs, like "Si Tú Te Vas" ('if you go'), "Contigo Otra Vez" ('with you again') and "No Te Voy a Perdonar" ('I’m not going to lose you'), resonated strongly in the US and in Mexico ...
