William James Gaither (born March 28, 1936) is an American singer and songwriter of Southern gospel and contemporary Christian music.He has written numerous popular Christian songs with his wife Gloria; he is also known for performing as part of the Bill Gaither Trio and the Gaither Vocal Band.
The Bill Gaither Trio received 17 Dove Awards from Gospel Music Association of the United States to recognize outstanding achievement in the Christian music industry. The Gaither Trio is recognised as one of the most influential Christian artists from the 1950s to the present day.
On February 19, 1992, the Gaither Vocal Band had just wrapped up a recording session in a Nashville, Tennessee, working on an album called Homecoming, which featured many of the great voices of southern gospel music: The Speers, The Gatlins, Jake Hess, The Cathedrals, Howard & Vestal Goodman, Buck Rambo, Eva Mae Lefevre, James Blackwood, Hovie Lister, Jim Hill, and J.D. Sumner & The Stamps.
