James Thomas Bowman CBE (6 November 1941 – 27 March 2023) was an English countertenor.His career spanned opera, oratorio, contemporary music and solo recitals. Arguably, he was, after Alfred Deller, the most important countertenor in the 20th century revival of the voice part.

A countertenor (also contra tenor) is a type of classical male singing voice whose vocal range is equivalent to that of the female contralto or mezzo-soprano voice types, generally extending from around G 3 to D 5 or E 5, [1] although a sopranist (a specific kind of countertenor) may match the soprano's range of around C 4 to C 6. [2]
Tim Mead was born in Chelmsford, Essex and began singing as a treble in the choir of Chelmsford Cathedral. [1] He was educated at King Edward VI Grammar School, Chelmsford and the Junior Department of Trinity College of Music where he studied cello and piano.

David Hurley (born August 1962) [2] is a British countertenor who sang with The King's Singers [3] from 1990 to 2016. Hurley was a chorister at Winchester Cathedral, and a choral scholar at Winchester College and New College, Oxford. [4] He became a mainstay in the British countertenor scene shortly after becoming a King's Singer. [citation needed]
