As no single provincial highway crosses the entire province between Ontario and New Brunswick, the main Trans-Canada route follows (from east to west) Autoroutes 40, 25, 20 and 85; with A-85 being interspersed with Route 185 as construction to upgrade the latter to autoroute standards progresses.
The route continues west as Saskatchewan Highway 361. The road is unpaved for its first 4.5 kilometres (2.8 mi) or so before becoming paved just west of Tilston. From there, the road heads south, crossing the Trans-Canada Highway at Richer, and eventually ends at PR 201 approximately 1.5 kilometres (0.93 mi) east of Vita. Along the way, it has short concurrences with PTH 15 and PR 210 , and travels through the communities of Beausejour, Richer, La Broquerie , and Zhoda .
