The Ransom Room (El Cuarto del Rescate) is a small building located in Cajamarca, Peru. It is considered to be the place where the Inca Empire came to an end with the capture and eventual execution of the Inca Emperor Atahualpa .
The Incas fulfilled this ransom. Over four months, almost 8 tons of gold was collected. Pizarro was supposed to let the ruler of the Incas free once the ransom was paid, but he refused to release the Inca after that and instead had him strangled in public. During Atahualpa's imprisonment Huáscar was assassinated.
Atahualpa's mother was Tocto Coca, of the Hatun Ayllu lineage. He personally consulted the Cusco nobles, with whom Atahualpa had a good relationship. Inca Garcilaso de la Vega (1539–1616) Quito Atahualpa's mother was the crown princess of the Kingdom of Quito, and Atahualpa was born there. The historical accuracy of his work is questioned.
