Peak Downs Mine is a large open cut coking coal mine in Queensland located 31 km SSE of Moranbah. [1] Peak Downs is one of seven mines in Bowen Basin owned by BHP Mitsubishi Alliance, Australia's largest coal miner and exporter. Production at Peak Downs started in 1972. By 2022 it was producing 37 million tonnes of coal per year. [2]
Situated around 200 kilometers west of Brisbane in Queensland's Surat Basin, the Commodore Mine is adjacent to the 850 mega-watt coal-fired Millmerran Power Station, to which the mine is the only source of coal fuel supply, having made its first delivery there in February 2003. Meandu Mine is a coal mine west of Yarraman in Neumgna, Queensland, Australia. The open-cut mine supplies coal to Tarong Power Station and Tarong North Power Station. It is owned by Stanwell Corporation and operated by Downer Mining. Work first started on the mine in 1978. [1] The mine has five active working pits.
