His character is next mentioned in the series as a mysterious serial killer sought out by the FBI , whose existence is completely speculative.

Sylar appears behind Meredith and telekinetically throws away Meredith’s gun. Eric Doyle appears and takes control of Sylar before Sylar overpowers him, leaving him lying on the ground bleeding from his nose. He then injects Meredith with adrenaline. Noah finds Echo DeMille dead and Meredith in a cell, flaming out of control.
Angela is horrified to find Nathan's dead body. Noah brings them the unconscious Sylar, and he and Angela convince a very reluctant Matt to alter Sylar's mind to believe he is Nathan, reasoning that he was the only person who could shut down any future "Agency". Matt succeeds, causing Sylar to take on Nathan's appearance and identity.
Sylar hears a noise, and shifts himself to street level where he confronts Peter. Peter reveals to Sylar that he intends to free him from the nightmare. While reluctantly accepting what Peter tells him, Sylar dares him to free them, only to have Peter fail in his attempt. Peter then proceeds to simply avoid Sylar, with months seeming to go by.
In this interview with Bryan Fuller (Already cited on Sylar's page), he says that Sylar's power is an "inherent understing and adaptability", and he was able to use his powers in the cell to kill Eden because he was "playing possum".
