The Shrine of Christ the King, formerly known as St. Clara and St. Gelasius Church, is a historic Catholic church of the Archdiocese of Chicago in the Woodlawn neighborhood. It is now the National Headquarters of the American Province of the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest , who are restoring the church after a 2015 fire.

The church was named a Chicago landmark in 2005. It was included on the National Trust for Historic Preservation's 2020 list of 11 Most Endangered Historic Places. In March 2021, Senator Tammy Duckworth introduced legislation that would make the church a national monument for its significance to the Civil Rights Movement. [6]

Dedicated on November 21, 1875, Holy Name Cathedral replaced the Cathedral of Saint Mary and the Church of the Holy Name, which were destroyed in the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. During renovations, a fire in 2009 caused major damage to the roof and interior of the church. [2] The damage was repaired and the cathedral reopened later that year.
