Eufaula National Wildlife Refuge is an 11,184 acre (45.26 km 2) National Wildlife Refuge located in Barbour and Russell counties in Alabama and Stewart and Quitman counties in Georgia. Eufaula NWR is located on the Walter F. George Lake (also known as Lake Eufaula) along the Chattahoochee River between Alabama and Georgia.
As of 2022, there are 588 National Wildlife Refuges in the United States, [1] with the addition of the Green River National Wildlife Refuge. [2] Refuges that have boundaries in multiple states are listed only in the state where the main visitor entrance is located.
In 1964, the Eufaula National Wildlife Refuge was established along Lake Walter F. George to serve and protect many endangered and threatened species such as the American bald eagle, the American alligator, the wood stork and the peregrine falcon. The refuge is a major tourist attraction for visitors from around the country.
