The Journal of Chinese Linguistics is a peer-reviewed academic journal in the field of linguistics, particularly concerned with all aspects of the Chinese language. It was established in 1973 and is now published twice a year by University of California at Berkeley. The current editor-in-chief is William S-Y. Wang (Chinese University of Hong Kong).

Hashimoto Mantarō (橋本 萬太郎, 26 November 1932 – 7 June 1987) was a Japanese sinologist and linguist who is best known for advocating research on language geography, linguistic typology, and how different areal features in the varieties of Chinese (such as tonal distinctions) reflect contact with other language families.
He has published on Chinese phonology, [6] tones, [7] [8] syntax, [9] [10] [11] as well as overviews of Chinese languages, [12] and tone languages generally. [13] [14] In addition to his research contributions, he was elected as the first president of the International Association of Chinese Linguistics (founded in 1992). [15]

Jan-Olof Svantesson, born 1944, is a professor of Linguistics at Lund University, Sweden. Svantesson wrote his doctoral dissertation in 1983 on the phonology and morphology of the Kammu language , [ 1 ] and has written a book about modern Mongolian phonology and the historical development of Mongolian.
