Elisabeth Gordon Chandler was born in St. Louis, Missouri, initially trained as a harpist, and was performing professionally by the age of eighteen.However, as a young woman she decided to pursue a career in the visual arts, and in New York City studied sculpture with Edmondo Quattocchi, and anatomy with Robert Beverly Hale at the Art Students League of New York.
From 1931, he had a long career teaching at the Art Students League of New York where he was a life member. [3] He also taught at the American Art School in New York City, the Brooklyn Museum School, the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts, and the Madison Art School in Connecticut. [4]
A large collection of Lyme Art Association archives was donated by Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts to the association in 2017.
