Oct 14, 2011. #2. I've ordered from AMS, Musician's Friend and Sweetwater. I've had the best experience with Sweetwater, and it's the first place I check if I want to buy some gear online. That being said I try to buy from a local mom and pop shop when I can, as I like supporting local business and the place I go to actually has competitive prices.

Regular price was $3600. SW offered to knock off a whopping $300 for me. I got it from MF for $2880 (and another $230 back in rewards on top of the 20% off). MF sent me multiple pictures of the actual guitar, went over it before shipping, restrung it with Elixirs for me, and shipped it overnight free of charge.
I have serious doubts about stories like that. Yes, people operate the machine, but if that actually happened I bet anything Sweetwater would make it right. I have had two guitars PLEK'd (not by Sweetwater) and the frets are better than any tech has ever done, with the least removal of fret material possible. Probably going to have a third done ...

I bought a Fender ultra telecaster about 6 months ago through Guitar Center Used and it had the purchase receipt in the case showing sweetwater had pleked and set up the guitar just two months prior. Both the neck and set up were both very nice but sweetwater is quite expensive to get work done and with.
And I have a regular salesman at MF who takes care of me. Sweetwater does take pics and weigh many guitars. So if you see one you really want based on look or weight, there will be less surprise. Between these two retailers, I buy about 4 guitars at MF for every 1 guitar I buy at SW. Agree.

Sep 18, 2015. #1. Folks, I want to write this short story to our TGP community about an experience I went through at Sweetwater Music the last few days. I have bought way over 100 guitars in my lifetime from various places and own some of the best there is out there. I look for high quality products and I tend to be meticulous with my gear.

Also, if you're nickle and dimin' your way up to a large purchase with a bunch of smaller sales, there's no way to look at your "balance".
Sweetwater has never been a company that thrives on discounts; that said, I walked in there a year ago with the intent of buying a Pro-Line Gretsch, specifically a 6119 Tennessee Rose. At the time, it was $2200 new. I asked if he could do an even $2000, and he didn’t even blink at that - said “sure”.
