The National Poetry Competition is an annual poetry prize established in 1978 in the United Kingdom. [1] It is run by UK-based The Poetry Society and accepts entries from all over the world, with over 10,000 poems being submitted to the competition each year. Winning has been an important milestone in the careers of many well-known poets.
2008 - Representing the Virgin Islands, Shawntay Henry became the 2008 National Champion; the first time the Virgin Islands participated. Ms. Henry was a 10th-grade student at the time. Her competition-winning poems included "Fredrick Douglas", by Robert Hayden. 2009 - More than 300,000 students competed in the nationwide competition in 2009.

The Pushcart Prize is an American literary prize published by Pushcart Press that honors the best "poetry, short fiction, essays or literary whatnot" [1] published in the small presses over the previous year.
