Edward Hicks, The Peaceable Kingdom (1826), National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC. Edward Hicks was born in his grandfather's mansion at Attleboro (now Langhorne), in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. His parents were Anglican. Isaac Hicks, his father, was a Loyalist who was left without any money after the British defeat in the Revolutionary War.
