St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Oratory (Polish: Kościół Świętego Stanisława) is a Roman Catholic parish in the historic Mitchell Street District of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It was designed by Polish nobleman Leonard Kowalski , one of Milwaukee's early Polish residents, who took the name Leonard Schmidtner and spoke German.
St. Martini Evangelical Lutheran Church is a historic church built in 1887 to serve the growing German immigrant population in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The brick church building was designed by German-born architect Herman Paul Schnetzky in a Gothic Revival style. [1] It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. [2] [1] [3]
St. Stephen's was originally established as a mission church called Die Evangelische-Lutherische St. Stephanus-Gemeinde in 1853. It was organized by members of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod to serve parishioners located south of the Menomonee River, and quartered in an old abandoned school building near 3rd and National Avenue.
[citation needed] In 1857, St. John's joined the Wisconsin Synod. St. Johanneskirche grew for years, building schools in 1871 and 1877. By 1889, the congregation exceeded 2,500 members, and it was time for a new, larger building. [2] St. John's hired Herman Paul Schnetzky, himself a German immigrant from Wriezen, to design the new church. [2]
