The Kannapolis Cannon Ballers are a Minor League Baseball team of the Carolina League and the Single-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. They are located in Kannapolis, North Carolina, and play their home games at Atrium Health Ballpark. The team was established in 1995 as the Piedmont Phillies.
A new scoreboard was installed in center field for the 2005 season, replacing the original board that the stadium used when it opened. [ 11 ] Atrium Health Ballpark , a new downtown ballpark, was scheduled to open for the 2020 season, replacing Intimidators Stadium, [ 12 ] but the 2020 season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic . As of March 2021, it is the home of the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers, the Carolina League affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, replacing Intimidators Stadium. The stadium is located adjacent to the North Carolina Research Campus and is the centerpiece of a $100 million redevelopment of downtown Kannapolis.
