The Boonton Historic District is a 9-acre (3.6 ha) historic district along Main, Church, Birch, Cornelia, and Cedar Streets in the town of Boonton in Morris County, New Jersey. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 29, 1980, for its significance in architecture.
The Waterfront Connection allows NJ Transit trains to switch from the former Pennsylvania Railroad main line (now the Newark Division) to the former Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad main line, now NJ Transit Rail Operations. The connection opened on September 9, 1991, at a cost of $16 million.
In 2020, the New Jersey Historic Trust funded the stabilization and restoration of the bridge, located in the New Jersey Register of Historic Places state-designated Boonton Ironworks Historic District. [3] [5] In 2023, it was listed as a key contributing structure of the Boonton Ironworks Historic District. [6]
Beginning of the Boonton Gorge, the old Morris Canal dam. The Rockaway River flows through flat plains of Denville and Boonton Township. At this point elevation is 480 feet (150 m) above sea level. The Rockaway River spills over a man-made dam that is six feet high in the town of Boonton. This is the beginning of the Boonton Gorge.
