The parish of Lea was formed on 1 April 1934 [7] from part of the former parish of Lea Ashton Ingol and Cottam, which was formed in 1866. [8] Lea parish was part of Preston Rural District until its abolition in 1974. [9] In 1974 the parish became part of the Borough of Preston, which became a city in 2002.

Lea Road railway station (/ ˈ l iː ə / LEE-ə) was on the Preston and Wyre Joint Railway in the parish of Lea and Cottam in Preston, Lancashire, England. It opened in 1842, [1] and closed on 2 May 1938. [1] [2] [3] Lea Road was located adjacent to the site of the proposed Cottam railway station. [4] [5]

The station would be near the site of the former Lea Road railway station between Lea Road and Sidgreaves Lane. It was planned to be part of the construction of a new distributor road linking the M55 with the A583, [20] which began in September 2019 and opened as Edith Rigby Way, part of the A582, on 3 July 2023.
