The O 2 Apollo Manchester (known locally as The Apollo and formerly Manchester Apollo and ABC Ardwick) is a concert venue in Ardwick Green, Manchester, England. It is a Grade II listed building , [ 3 ] with a capacity of 3,500 (2,514 standing, 986 seats).
It has the third-highest seating capacity of any indoor venue in the United Kingdom, behind Co-op Live and Manchester Arena, and in 2008 was the world's busiest music arena. [1] As of 2022, it is the ninth-largest building in the world by volume with a diameter of 365 metres (399 yards) and a height of 52 metres (57 yards).
The O2 (formerly known as the Millennium Dome) is a large entertainment district on the Greenwich peninsula in South East London, England, including an indoor arena, a music club, a Cineworld cinema, an exhibition space, piazzas, bars, restaurants, and a guided tour to the top of the O2.
The Manchester Apollo, a 1930s Art Deco theatre, is one of Ardwick's most famous landmarks: it was in use as a cinema from 1943 and was renamed the ABC Ardwick in 1962. [6] The building is the head office for Peninsula Business Services, whose subsidiary companies occupy all but two of the twelve office floors. The group released the concert film At the Apollo on DVD in 3 November 2008. The film was directed by Richard Ayoade, and filmed on super 16mm film with cinematography by Danny Cohen. It features footage of the band performing on 17 December 2007, at their last show of the tour in Manchester's Carling Apollo. [1]
