A tornado destroyed a 108-year-old structure called the Hopewell Baptist Church in Buena Vista. It was subsequently rebuilt and it reopened in 2022. The church was an important Buena Vista landmark because it was frequented by German and African American people of North Nashville and it was designed by notable architect Henry Gibel. [4]
Historic Germantown is Nashville's oldest neighborhood. Immigrants from Germany began to build homes there in the 1840s. [2] The area was established as Germantown in the 1850s. The boundaries of the district are Jefferson Street, third Avenue North, Taylor Street and Eight Avenue North. [1] The area encompasses 18 city blocks. [2]

In 1980 John walker established a nonprofit organization called the Whitland Area Neighborhood Association. The mission of the association was to create a sense of community, prevent crime, beautify the area, control traffic, and deal with zoning issues. The association also coordinates events and holds regular meetings and social gatherings. [3]
The area started in the early 1800s as a rural Nashville neighborhood. Many wealthy people and professionals from Nashville built estates in Edgefield. The outlaw Jesse James lived in Edgefield and his address was 712 Fatherland Street. In 1869 Edgefield became a city, and in 1880, it was annexed by the city of Nashville. [2]
