The Khewra Salt Mine (Urdu: کھیوڑہ نمک کان), also known as Mayo Salt Mine, is the world's second largest salt mine, located in Khewra, Punjab, Pakistan. [1] The mine is in the Salt Range of the Potohar plateau , which rises from the Indus plain of the Punjab.

The Salt Range (Punjabi: سلسلہ کوہ نمک) is a mountain range in the north of Punjab [1] province of Pakistan, deriving its name from its extensive deposits of rock salt. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] The range extends along the south of the Potohar Plateau and the north of the Jhelum River .
The Khewra Salt Mines are among the world's oldest and biggest salt mines. Salt is mined at Khewra in an underground area of about 110 square kilometres (42 sq mi). Khewra salt mine has an estimated total of 220 million tonnes of rock salt deposits. The current production from the mine is 325,000 tons of salt per annum.
