Originally incorporated as the Animal Rescue League of Pittsburg, the organization opened its first shelter in May 1910. The shelter was small, but later that year a 16-acre farm called Rosedale was donated to the League. Rosedale's initial use served as overflow housing of dogs and cats that were in the ARL's care.

[1] [2] Abused, disabled, and otherwise homeless wild cats such as Lions, tigers, leopards, servals, pumas, bobcats, Canada lynx, ocelots, Geoffroy's cat, and an Asian leopard cat have taken refuge in this organization.
Alley Cat Allies created National Feral Cat Day in 2001, [17] which it promotes every October 16. In 2017, the organization changed the event's name to Global Cat Day. [18] On October 16, 2023, Alley Cat Allies conducted a program in Grand Cayman, providing spay/neuter surgeries for as many as 100 cats and distributing cat food.

Wetheriggs Animal Rescue (previously called Wetheriggs Zoo and Animal Sanctuary) is a registered UK charity. [1] Wetheriggs is an international animal rescue centre now located on the A66 just outside Barnard Castle in County Durham, England. The rescue centre takes in a wide range of animals apart from domestic cats and dogs.
