Upgrade scenario 1 - ONT box is very old (2 generations +): If your ONT box is old (2 generations +), like mine, Verizon will charge you $149 to come out to your home and upgrade your ONT box and run an ethernet cable from the ONT to your router. This charge is waived for new customers that sign up online (covered further down on install fees ...
You get one 10Gbps LAN port and two 2.5Gbps LAN ports if you want to do multi-gigabit local networking (for stuff like file sharing) and a 6Ghz Wi-Fi channel, but you lose the second 5Ghz channel. So if you don't have access to FIOS' higher speed plans, don't have Wi-Fi 6E devices, and don't care about faster internal networking (or don't have ...
Looking to upgrade from G1100 and looking for recommendations. We currently have the Verizon Fios gigabyte plan and have been using the G1100 router. Verizon suggested we upgrade to the G3100 for an extra 15$ a month (299$ for the router). I figured before just going along with it I would get some recommendations!
All Wifi extenders and mesh routers will cut your endpoint speed in half. For each extra mesh router, expect to cut your speed in half again. If upstairs users are ok with half the speed you get in your room, then yah, just get a wifi extender for upstairs. Most standard wifi router have an extender mode.
FiOS GB internet + TV customer here (don't use coax data networking because I've got TiVos at home). My rented G1100 Quantum Gateway needs to be replaced due to problems with the LAN ports. When requesting the replacement from Verizon, the tech support guy asked me if I wanted to upgrade my router for an extra $3 per month rental fee.
The upgrade included a Fios TV One STB (DVR) and a second Fios TV One mini STB. I also opted to upgrade the actiontec with a Fios G1100 router (Ebay used). Fios latest fancy router was way too much for what we needed. I forget if they have a router rental fee. If you don't have a Fios DVR in your existing plan, you can simply go for the Fios TV ...

Nope. Yes it’s worth it for the better MOCA, everything runs faster in the house. I recently upgraded from the Fios Quantum Gateway to the CR1000A and the CR1000A has features that are not capable with technology that isn’t even out yet the tech said it’s the future but where not there yet lol A lot of my cameras and streaming devices ...
The CR1000A is a very good router. It supports WIFI 6E, which is the latest. You'd probably pay $300 or more for a router these days with 6E support. It also pairs will Verizon-supplied wifi extenders via hardwire ethernet or MoCA (best) and as a last resort via wifi. It also is rated for 10gb, with both 10 and 2.5gb WAN/LAN ports.
Verizon FIOS router Replacement Question. Hi. Trying to help my mother in law with her FIOS. We recently shut off Verizon FIOS TV on her account and Verizon is now charging her a $12/mo router rental fee. Her existing G1100 router is connected by coaxial only. For setups like this, I've read that you typically need to find the ONT and run an ...
