In 1998, the Gold Kings relocated to Colorado Springs and became the Colorado Gold Kings. In its four seasons in Colorado the team fared better than it did in Alaska by qualifying for the postseason every year, but still failed to move past the second round of the playoffs. The Colorado Gold Kings folded after the 2001–02 season. [4]

The Denver Falcons were the first professional ice hockey team in Colorado.They were a member of the United States Hockey League.Playing their home games at the University of Denver Ice Arena, the team had a memorable season in Denver, starting with winning Colorado's first professional hockey game over the St. Paul Saints 3-1 at DU.

[1] The Grit's initial ownership group was the same one that ran the Northern Colorado Eagles (a Tier III junior team). Jeffrey Sauer (March 10, 1943 – February 2, 2017) was an American ice hockey player and coach. Sauer was the head coach at the University of Wisconsin from 1982 to 2002 and Colorado College from 1971 to 1982.
