Western Michigan University (Western Michigan, Western or WMU) is a public research university in Kalamazoo, Michigan, United States. It was initially established as Western State Normal School in 1903 by Governor Aaron T. Bliss for the training of teachers. [4] It was renamed Western Michigan University in 1957.
In March 2011, Western Michigan University received a gift of $100 million for the medical school from the Stryker family. In 2018, WMed was granted full accreditation by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME). The first class of 48 students graduated in the same year and were all subsequently matched to residency programs.
