In organic chemistry, a vinyl group (abbr. Vi; [1] IUPAC name: ethenyl group [2]) is a functional group with the formula −CH=CH 2. It is the ethylene (IUPAC name: ethene) molecule (H 2 C=CH 2) with one fewer hydrogen atom. The name is also used for any compound containing that group, namely R−CH=CH 2 where R is any other group of atoms.
In the mid-19th century, the suffix -ene (an Ancient Greek root added to the end of female names meaning "daughter of") was widely used to refer to a molecule or part thereof that contained one fewer hydrogen atoms than the molecule being modified. Thus, ethylene (C 2 H 4) was the "daughter of ethyl" (C 2 H 5). The name ethylene was used in ...
In chemistry, vinylene (also ethenylene or 1,2-ethenediyl) [1] is a divalent functional group (a part of a molecule) [2] with formula −CH=CH−; [3] namely, two carbons, each connected to the other by a double bond, to an hydrogen atom by a single bond, and to the rest of the molecule by another single bond.
2 C 2 H 6 + 7 O 2 → 4 CO 2 + 6 H 2 O + 3120 kJ. Combustion may also occur without an excess of oxygen, yielding carbon monoxide, acetaldehyde, methane, methanol, and ethanol. At higher temperatures, especially in the range 600–900 °C (1,112–1,652 °F), ethylene is a significant product: 2 C 2 H 6 + O 2 → 2 C 2 H 4 + 2 H 2 O
That $1.50 price has been in place since 1985, and Costco has vowed to never raise it. Costco’s first CEO, Jim Sinegal, in 2008 jokingly warned his successor, Craig Jelinek, to stick with the ...
Tetra-tert-butylethylene is a hypothetical organic compound, a hydrocarbon with formula C 18 H 36, or ((H 3 C−) 3 C−) 2 C=C(−C(−CH 3) 3) 2.As the name indicates, its molecular structure can be viewed as an ethylene molecule H 2 C=CH 2 with the four hydrogens replaced by tert-butyl −C(−CH 3) 3 groups.

E)-Stilbene itself is of little value, but it is a precursor to other derivatives used as dyes, optical brighteners, phosphors, and scintillators. [25] Stilbene is one of the gain mediums used in dye lasers. [26] 4,4 ′-diamino-2,2 ′-stilbenedisulfonic acid is a popular optical brightener used in some laundry detergents.
