Mount Vernon is a city in and the county seat of Knox County, Ohio, United States, along the Kokosing River. [4] It is located 40 miles (64 km) northeast of Columbus . The population was 16,956 at the 2020 census .

South Mount Vernon is a census-designated place (CDP) in Knox County, Ohio, United States, adjacent to the city of Mount Vernon. It was first listed as a CDP prior to the 2020 census. [2] The CDP is west of the center of Knox County, in Clinton Township. It is bordered to the north, east, and south by the city of Mount Vernon.
Pleasant Township was established on March 9, 1825, and was named for its scenic landscapes. On December 7, 1838 the county commissioners split off the northeast quarter of the township to create College Township in honor of Kenyon College.
Located in the center of the county, it borders the following townships: Pike Township - north; Brown Township - northeast corner; Howard Township - east; Harrison Township - southeast corner, east of College Township
