The CZ 52 pistol is a roller-locked short recoil–operated, detachable box magazine–fed, single-action, semi-automatic pistol chambered for the 7.62×25mm Tokarev cartridge (the gun was originally designed for 9×19mm Parabellum caliber but due to political pressures had to be redesigned for the then-standard Soviet pistol cartridge).

The origin of the roller-locking is debated: [1] even though the general principle of utilizing "ball bearing parts" under radial pressure "for preventing uncoupling of the coupling members" was known no later than 1910s, [2] it was apparently not used in firearms until 1930s.
In 1961 Sa vz. 61 Škorpion machine pistol was introduced to fill the gap between submachine guns and semi-automatic pistols. More than 200,000 of these machine pistols in the standard .32 ACP cartridge were produced in Uherský Brod until 2000, and small batches of these machine pistols in the .380 ACP version were produced in the 1990s.
Manufactured by the Czechoslovak firm Česká zbrojovka the vz. 82 replaced the 7.62×25mm Tokarev vz. 52 pistol in Czechoslovak military service in 1983. It is a compact, single/double-action, semi-automatic pistol with a conventional blowback action.
The 7×46mm is designed to replace both the 5.56mm and 7.62mm NATO cartridges. It is low recoil and so can be used from carbines, but has long enough range to be used in machine guns and designated marksmen rifles. Its overall length has been optimized so that guns chambering it would be bigger than AR-15s but smaller than AR-10s. [11]
Standard issue pistol since 2012. Replacement of the pistol decided in 2020 for the CZ P-10 C/F. Withdrawal to be completed by 2025, and to be put in reserve. [2] 5,570 initially ordered (2011) 5,500 additional ordered in 2016 [3] CZ P-10 C/F Czech Republic: Semi-automatic pistol: 9×19mm Parabellum: Selected in 2020 as new standard-issue pistol.
The pistol is commonly available in 7.62×25mm caliber, although some variants have been made in 9×19mm Parabellum. Though the QSZ-92 (Type 92) has supplemented the Type 54 in the Army, the weapon is still in service in some of the Chinese armed forces (such as the People's Armed Police and some People's Liberation Army troops) today.
