A third act, the Coolgardie–Kalgoorlie Railway Act 1895, assented to on 2 October 1895, authorised construction of a railway line from Coolgardie to Kalgoorlie. Coolgardie–Esperance Highway continues south as National Route 1 to the coastal town of Esperance, at a roundabout with Harbour Road, Fisheries Road, and Norseman Road. [4] Harbour Road is the southernmost section of the highway, [ 5 ] a controlled-access [ 1 ] bypass of the town linking to South Coast Highway and the Esperance Port.
The highway is approximately 797 kilometres (495 mi) in length, and is designated as Alternate National Route 94 from Kalgoorlie to Coolgardie–Esperance Highway. The full highway has also been assigned State Route 132 since a review of state routes was conducted in 2024.
Surveyed in 1899, [10] the line went from Kalgoorlie station. [11] The platform linking to the line was at the east end and on the south side of the main platform. Due to costs and passenger decline, in 1920, some of the stations listed below were reduced in status by ceasing to be booking stations: Hannan Street, Golden Gate, Brown Hill and Trafagar. [12]
