AN ACT TO PROMOTE, REQUIRE AND ENSURE THE PRODUCTION OF AN ADEQUATE SUPPLY, DISTRIBUTION, USE AND ACCEPTANCE OF DRUGS AND MEDICINES IDENTIFIED BY THEIR GENERIC NAMES. Section. 1. Title. - This Act shall be known as the "Generics Act of 1988." Sec. 2. Statement of Policy. - It hereby declared the policy of the State:
Republic Act (RA) No. 6675 also known as the Generics Act of 1988 provides that it is the policy of the State to encourage the extensive use of drugs with generic names through a rational system of procurement and distribution.
This Act, consisting of 15 sections, declares the policy to promote, require and ensure the production of adequate supply, use and acceptance of drugs (including for animal use) identified by their generic names.
Before the passage of Republic Act No. 6675 or the Generics Act of IB88, the drug industry was regulated by Republic Act No. 3720 then known as the Food, Drugand Cosmetics Act of 1963.
