The Isle of Wight NHS Trust is an NHS trust which provides physical health, mental health and ambulance services for the Isle of Wight. The trust is unique in being the only integrated acute, community, mental health and ambulance health care provider in England. [4] It runs St Mary's Hospital and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
The trust was formed on 1 October 2024 following the merger of Solent NHS Trust and Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust and also incorporates the community and mental health services formerly provided by the Isle of Wight NHS Trust. The merger was approved in November 2023 and was originally planned for April 2024, but was delayed twice. [1] [2]
The hospital has 18 units and wards, 266 beds and 6 operating theatres. [9] [10] [11] Separate from the main hospital but located on the same site is Sevenacres, a psychiatric unit, with 3 wards and 32 beds. The hospital was procured under a Private Finance Initiative contract to replace the old Lymington Hospital in 2004. It was designed by Murphy Philipps Architects and constructed by Ryhurst [1] at a cost of £36 million. [2] The hospital was opened on 6 February 2007 by Princess Anne. [2]
The trust was formed on 1 April 2011 following the merger of Hampshire Community Healthcare NHS Trust and Hampshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. [3] On 1 October 2024, the trust combined with Solent NHS Trust and Isle of Wight NHS Trust to form one large trust Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
