Stillwater became the state’s first school district just two years later. From the first one-room schoolhouse, Stillwater Area Public Schools has grown to serve more than 8,300 students in 7 elementary schools (PreK-5), two middle schools (grades 6-8), one high school (grades 9-12), and an alternative learning center for secondary students.

Shenendehowa Central School district was established on January 14, 1950, under the name of "Central Schools District No. 2, of the Towns of Clifton Park, Halfmoon, Malta, Waterford, Ballston and Stillwater, County of Saratoga, New York." The name Shenendehowa was decided later and accredited to old Dutch maps which designated the area as such.
Since 1989, the Stillwater Middle School and Taisei Junior High School in Kameoka have participated in a sister school relationship, which features an active teacher-student exchange program. In 2016, the Stillwater High School based string quintet, Penta-Strings, played for the during the 30-year visit of the Kameoka delegation.
