The belt also tends to wedge into the groove as the load increases—the greater the load, the greater the wedging action—improving torque transmission and making the V-belt an effective solution, needing less width and tension than flat belts. V-belts trump flat belts with their small center distances and high reduction ratios.
It is a stepless, fully-automatic transmission, consisting of a V-shaped drive-belt, and two pulleys, each of two cones, whose effective diameter can be changed so that the "V" belt runs nearer the spindle or nearer the rim, depending on the separation of the cones. These are synchronized so that the belt always remains at the same optimal tension.
The most common type of CVT uses a V-belt which runs between two variable-diameter pulleys. [1] The pulleys consist of two cone-shaped halves that move together and apart. The V-belt runs between these two halves, so the effective diameter of the pulley is dependent on the distance between the two halves of the pulley.

In accordance with industry trends of the early 1960s, the 560 was styled with squared-off lines by industrial designer Raymond Loewy. The 560 was powered by a Perkins Engines 269.5-cubic-inch (4,416 cc) four-cylinder diesel engine with a six-speed transmission.
Running on gasoline, distillate or kerosene, it produced 44 horsepower (33 kW). Operating weight was over 10,000 pounds (4,500 kg). A WD-9 diesel version of the same displacement was available. Industrial tractors were the International I-9 and ID-9, and a special steel-wheeled rice field variant was the WR-9 and WDR-9.
