At the end of the year 2004–2005, Bangladesh Railway had a total of 1,406 coaches. Among them, 1,344 were for conveyance of passengers and 62 were for luggage, mails, parcels and departmental uses. Bangladesh Railway also had 10,236 wagons among which, 7,310 are covered, 1,115 are open and 1,811 are specialized types. [1]
On May 31, 2018, Bangladesh Railway signed an agreement with the China Railway Design Corporation and Mazumder Enterprise. The 928-seat ultra-modern and high-speed train with 12 coaches including two air-conditioned chairs and seven non-air conditioned chairs are running on the route without any stoppage between Dhaka and Rajshahi. [3] It has two engines, imported from India in 2013, and twelve coaches, imported from Indonesia in the late 2010s.
Bangladesh Railway Class 3000 is the latest class of meter-gauge locomotive of the Bangladesh Railway. As of 2020, total 476 meter-gauge and broad-gauge diesel locos (including the old 11 class 3000 locos) have been imported in Bangladesh. Most of them are diesel-electric, but 80 locos are diesel-hydraulic.
