KNOE-TV has been the dominant news station in the Ark-La-Miss for more than a quarter-century. It has won numerous state, regional and national journalism awards, including the 2008 Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award for News Director Taylor Henry's investigative series on rogue members of the Louisiana National Guard who looted stores they were deployed to protect during Katrina.
On June 23, 2008, original local owner Monroe Broadcasting filed an application with the FCC to sell KAQY to Parker Broadcasting for $10 million. Included in the application was a proposed local marketing agreement (LMA) to allow Hoak Media, then-owner of CBS affiliate KNOE-TV, to operate the station. The sale was completed on October 9, 2008.
Monroe is served by two African-American-owned weekly newspapers: the Monroe Free Press and the Monroe Dispatch. The Free Press was founded in 1969 by Roosevelt Wright, Jr., and The Dispatch was founded in 1975 by Irma and Frank Detiege. It was a primary NBC affiliate, sharing ABC with KNOE-TV. Fuqua sold KTVE to Gray Communications in December 1967, making it Gray's third owned station. In February 1970, shortly after rival station KNOE installed a translator in El Dorado to better serve viewers there, KTVE installed a translator south of Monroe, W02AW. [3]

[9] On January 9, 1967, 101.9 KNOE-FM (now KMVX) came on the air. In the early 1960s, KNOE moved to 540 kHz, with a daytime power of 5,000 watts, and a nighttime power of 1,000 watts.
