Dvořák displayed his musical gifts at an early age, being a talented violin student. The first public performances of his works were in Prague in 1872 and, with special success, in 1873, when he was 31 years old. Seeking recognition beyond the Prague area, he submitted scores of symphonies and other works to German and Austrian competitions.
The Antonín Dvořák Museum is part of the Czech Museum of Music which in turn is part of the National Museum.Since 1932, the museum has been housed in a Baroque style building which was designed by the architect Kilian Ignaz Dientzenhofer at the beginning of the 18th century, even though the house itself has no particular link with the Dvořák.
Antonín Dvořák composed over 200 works, most of which have survived. They include nine symphonies, ten operas, four concertos and numerous vocal, chamber and keyboard works.
